As we gather in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 1st and 2nd, 2025, to celebrate the life of our beloved brother SOBAN Godwin Namaya, we do so with heavy hearts yet profound reverence. His life, echoing with courage, community, sacrifice, and love, calls us not just to mourn, but to honor a trailblazer—a husband, father, son, and unwavering SOBAN.

Sunrise: May 7, 1966 – Sunset: May 5, 2025
Born into the distinguished Namaya household as the son of Honorable Michael Elangwe Namaya and Mama Margaret Litumbe, Godwin entered St. Joseph’s College Sasse in 1979 (MAT No. 2989), beginning a journey of selfless service. From Bambili to Germany, and through his studies at Kennesaw State and Siebel Universities, he built a legacy of unity across Atlanta, Seattle, and beyond. With his beloved wife Marie, he raised Godwin Jr. and Malaika, his heartbeat and pride.
A founding pillar of SOBA America, Godwin’s faith in its future never wavered. He shaped its Constitution, led the Georgia Chapter, and served as the first Treasurer of the Members-At-Large Chapter in Seattle. His probing questions and steadfast presence made SOBA stronger. Beyond SOBA, he united DEDICO USA, OROKO USA, Victoria Boys, and Kumba Boys, proving community is sacred.
Even in illness—battling kidney disease, enduring amputations, and facing loss—Godwin remained a lighthouse of hope. When SOBA raised money for his transplant wheelchair, he turned support into joy. Scheduled to speak at the Detroit convention last year despite his struggles, he aimed to teach us how to live through pain with purpose.
Today, we lift up Honorable Michael Elangwe Namaya, mourning from Yaoundé at 85, and the Namaya family—Marie, Godwin Jr., and Malaika—assuring them Godwin’s impact endures. To all SOBANS: honor him by building boldly, loving loyally, suffering strongly, and serving selflessly.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7
Rest in peace, Soban Namaya. Your legacy is our banner of unity.
