THEME: Solidifying their Brotherhood!

‘The more man knows of man, the better for the common brotherhood among men.’ Charles Dickens.

The weekend started on Friday September 22nd, 2017 with the arrival of SOBA 97 USA brothers, at a special rented house at College Park, MD. The evening commemorated the event by socializing with one another, and recalling old stories from their days in Sasse. Later that night, they had activities such as FIFA 2017 soccer game competition, and dance competition. The night ended with a house party with stories as young boys in Sasse and music by their very own Emeritus Chairman, Dikongue Georges alias DJ Diko.

Saturday September 23rd started with breakfast. Bread, chocolate and tea were provided to remind them of their old beautiful mornings in the refectory. At 1:00pm, they had a very competitive soccer game: against the formidable players of SOBA DMV under the tutelage of President Ekole Fojungo . The SOBA 97 team captain, John Batta ensured they had a superb line-up to match up with the powerful squad from SOBA DMV soccer team. The game ended with a 2-2 draw. The game was followed by BBQ and drinks. SOBANS came in their numbers to support them. The event was very interactive, as they reconnected with old friends, senior and junior SOBANS. Later that evening, they had dinner together at the rented house in College Park, MD.

Sunday September 24th was the final and most important day of their anniversary. This was the cornerstone of their anniversary as their ultimate objective was to thank God for their lives, the love they have shared thus far as brothers, and to remember their fallen brothers who have joined the lord. They had a thanksgiving mass at the Church of the Resurrection, Burtonsville MD. This mass started at 10:30am and the chief Mass Celebrant was Fr. DeSiano. They wore their Sasse high school official attire: white shirt, red tie, black pants and black shoes. After the gospel, Fr. Barry, a second Mass Celebrant, gave the congregation an overview of SOBA 97 USA and about Sasse College. He later called them to the altar and blessed them. Immediately after the main offertory procession, they had a special offertory procession headed by their class chairman, Effoe Rene. SOBA 97 USA special choir sang during this time. They ended this offertory procession by singing their school anthem, “With St. Joseph ever near to guide us…” After church service, the congregation gave them a warm welcome while they distributed the church bulletin to them.

Sasse is a way of life, and not just an institution. We are all united in this common way of thinking and behavior which has made us all very successful people and valuable assets in our respective communities. May St. Joseph continue to guide us.

LONG LIVE ST. JOSEPH’S COLLEGE SASSE, LONG LIVE SOBA 97
